How To Get Your Art Printed

Journal Entry: Thu Jun 25, 2009, 7:54 PM
Now here's another awesome question I get a lot as well.

Where do I get my stuff printed?

:iconscottyshoemaker: :iconnctorres: and I get our books done up on a POD Service. POD stands for (Print On Demand)

ComiXpress.com is one of many places and I enjoy their product and most importantly their customer service! Very helpful and prompt.

Another one is Ka-Blam.com I haven't used them but I hear mixed reviews. Dunno but that's another one out there.

Then there's the expensive yet great product driven lulu.com They have the whole package from having your own ISBN product number to printing and shipping but it's gonna cost a bit more although their products are top notch!

So there ya have it. Do your own homework and maybe you can find more POD places online. So there are just a few. Research and have fun calculating costs!

I can personally vouch for the quality of Lulu's products, as I once self-published a novel there and it turned out great. You can set your own price and they take a cut of the profits. The site is very user-friendly and helps you get a good handle on your entire book's visual appearance before you publish. It's not a bad choice, but I imagine it's a lot costlier for visual books (e.g., comics) than for a written novel.

I've used LuLu for my photo books. They produce a nice book. You're right tho, they are pricier.

I haven't used Ka-Blam yet, but I've bought their product. I think the books look nice. I also like that they have a site dedicated to selling the books printed by them. Some of us like to browse, and are likely to pick up extra comics when we go to buy that one by the artist we like.

I ordered a few small ones for my wife. They seem to be pretty high quality stuff. I guess some of that depends on whos work it is too. I would order some more if i found something i really liked and had a place for it. Hope my lil review helps. Oh yea i got my stuff super fast in the mail.

Switch CP for KB and you've got it. CP has been nothing but slow and impossible, customers wait MONTHS for their orders (and emails to CP for refunds would always be ignored which angered a lot of our fans) and the customer service is nonexistent. My entire label used to use them and I would have to call the owners at home just to get service -- it took us 2 years to get the profits from almost 3 years of sales. KB on the other hand, has been fantastic. Customers get their books in their hands, never have to worry. They let creators set their own ship by dates but most of the time the books ship WAY before that. They're timely and high quality, and better priced. You can also get the same quality from KB that you can get from Lulu without paying through the wazoo. The important thing is that the KB guys are priced to provide not only great quality but ALSO priced for the convenience of creators.
